what is the purpose of routing vlans, why not just have 2 interfaces on a router connecting to 2 seperate switches ?

Re: vlans

Its the same thing . The advantage of of L3 switch is that you can route literally 100's of vlans off the same switch , you cannot get that kind of interface density off a router and a router is not nearly as fast as a L3 switch.

Re: vlans

Hi,

routing vlans advantage is saving physical ports on router and switches

By creating sub interfaces and using inter vlan routing

Saving physical interfaces is nothing but cost saving ..

Thanks
