vpi/vci range

Hi,

Anybody tell me why we must define the vpi/vci value range within an interface on any atm network?

Re: vpi/vci range

Are you referring to 'atm vc-per-vp"? If so, it is because of the SAR chip used in the ATM interface hardware. In some cases you have a limited vpi/vci table size and need to specify your range. Here's the config doc.

Re: vpi/vci range

Because The ATM cell includes a five-byte header. The user-network interface (UNI) cell header includes eight bits for the VPI field and 16 bits for the VCI field.

The size of these fields plays a role in the range of VPI and VCI values
