We have BBSM 5.2 server and noticed that VPN BBSM clients gets connected to their guest VPN server but it is very very slow. We have an ADSL modem connected to PIX 515E firewall and the DMZ interface of PIX is connected to the External NIC of BBSM. BBSM is working fine for the last 6-8 months but only guests who need to access their e-mail via VPN exhibiting very slow vpn connection. Do I have to do any special configuration on the PIX to allow VPN traffic to outside?

Was there a major change in the network due to which the delay is occuring.? If the config is fine then, it could be due to large volume of data and less bandwidth. Have you configured QoS on your networks. Some times it helps. But if you do not have much of voice traffic, then its not worth it. You can do some Traffic shaping and use Priority queuing to send data accross. Hope this helps.

There was no change at all. Even now internet browsing and downloading is fast. But only e-mail retrieval through VPN is very slow. VPN was tried only two months back and then onwards it is solw. QoS is not configured. There is in fact no voice traffic. Is there any special configuration for VPN? But if there is some misconfig, VPN should not connect at all, right? Here it gets connected.

Do you think bypassing the PIX firewall will help to resolve the VPN slow issue. I mean, is it the PIX NATing causing the problem?
