Hi,

I have a C6505 as a Core switch and two C3550G-24 as the distribution switch. (there are other C2950G as distribution switch)

C6505 CatOS version is "cat6000-sup2k8.7-6-3a.bin"

C3550G-24 IOS version is "c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-19.EA1.bin"

The vtp configuration revision number is 20 on all other switches in the network except the two C3550G.

On C6506, the port that connect to both C3550 is set to "set trunk Mod/Port off negotiate 1-1005,1025-4094" and "set vlan 5 Mod/Port".

On C3550, the uplink port is set to "switchport access vlan 5"

The C3550 is set to "VTP client" and C6505 is "VTP Server".

Any clue? Thanks!

Hi,

you need a trunk running between your Core and Distribution switch for VTP to work correctly.

set trunk Mod/Port off ...

disables trunking on the Core port.

Change it to set trunk Mod/Port negotiate negotiate 1-1005,1025-4094.

The first "negotiate" is used to negotiate if to trunk or not with the other side, the second "negotiate" is used for encapsulation (ISL or 802.1q).

You can check by "sh trunk mod/port" output if the trunk is running correctly - see the "status" column.

Regards,
