AOA,

I have a 7200 series router, 3550 and 2950 Switches, i just make a 3550 VTP Server and 2950 a VTP client.

If my network structure is like that,

3550------7200-----2950

Can i pass VTP traffic from 3550 through 7200 series router to 2950(client). If yes what is the configuration of 7200 series router interface.

Thank u.

Check below for the configuration of router & switch for VLAN. If there is no etherchannel, just ignore those command.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps628/products_configuration_example09186a00800ef797.shtml

Sorry I did not test the VTP server/transparent mode between router & switch, but I believe it can't pass and not work after passing through a router. It was because the VTP is working in layer 2 and the router port is layer 3, you cannot move or change the VLAN in a router via VTP.

Can you please advise the testing result ?

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Unfortunately this configuration will not work as the 7200 will not do VTP.

The 3550 and the 2950 will also not communicate VTP frames as the 7200 will not switch the traffic.

Hope this helps,

Michael.

Thanks Michael for the clarification.
