This is my network topology

-------------------- -----------------

| | | |

| Cat 2948 GL3 | --------Dot1Q Trunk----------| Cat 2950 |--------Dot1Q Trunk---

--------------------- ------------------

______________ ____________

| | | |

-------| Intel 460 T |------Dot1Q Trunk-- -| Cat 2924 XL |

------------------------- -----------------------

I need to trunk VLANs across this setup. Each switch serves a particluar department, and all ports in a switch will be part of the same VLAN (or maybe two vlans). Intervlan routing will be handled by the Cat2948GL3. Do I need to create a VTP domain and have a VTP server in this setup ? How do I manage this with a non Cisco switch bang in the midlle of the network ?

I need this info very urgently. All help will be greatly appreiciated.

Hi.

I'm afraid you can not rely on VTP to propagate VLAN information because you have a non Cisco switch in the middle. But you don't need to. You can configure on each switch the VLANs you want and use dot1q trunking between the all the switches. Set each Catalyst to be in VTP transparent mode.

Hope this helps.
