vtp password

Hi,

My question is,

There are 10 switches which has same VTP domain, but without configure "VTP password". If I need to configure "VTP password" to each switch. How can I SAFTY to perform it? It will not affect users which are connected.

Regards,

Samuel

Re: vtp password

Hi,

You need to configure the same VTP password on all 10 switches.

The switches will reject any VTP update when there's a password mismatch. However, they will continue to use the cached VLAN information from the previous VTP update. As long as the switch isn't rebooted during the course of password change you should be alright.

I believe you can safely configure the password on one switch at a time without causing any disruption. Ofcourse, make sure the switch doesn't get rebooted for any reason during the course of the pw change which would cause that switch to go down until you can configure the correct password on that switch. This is purely based on my experience. I recommend trying this in a lab environemnt, if possible, to rule out any surprises.

Hope that helps!

Regards,

Sundar
