VTP

i have 2 switchs in the same VTP domain

and both are in the transparent mode

i created vlans 2,3,4 on switch1,and created vlans 5,6,7 on switch2,now if i changed the VTP Mode of switch1 to "server" is there any effect on the existing vlans on both switchs?

Re: VTP

If you change only the VTP mode on switch1, it won't have any effect because as long as switch2 is in vtp mode transparent it will not listen to the VTP advertisement of switch1.

Now if you want to set the two switches in VTP server mode, you may experience trouble because the two switches have different vlan databases and they will have a config revision number of 0. The vlan database will not be merged. As soon as you will add a vlan to a switch the other will loose all its vlans and learn the vlans of its neighbor.

I hope this helps you.

Christophe
