VTY Line questions.

There are 0-4 VTY lines for a router/switch. Is that mean the router/switch can accept 5 concurrent telnet connections? So if vty has 0-15, that mean it can accept 16 telnet sessions?

Are those lines bound to any ports on the router/switch? or they are virtual?

Thank you

Re: VTY Line questions.

Hi,

Yep, you can have as many telnet/ssh sessions are there are virtual terminal lines configured. These are very much virtual interfaces and not tied to any physical ports.

Hope that helps - pls do rate the post if it does.

Re: VTY Line questions.

Hello,

in addition to Paresh's post, although the default number of VTY lines that show in your config is either 5 (0-4) or 16 (0-15) in some cases, depending on your platform and IOS version, up to 100 VTY lines might be configurable. The command 'interface line vty ? gives you the maximum number of VTY lines supported...
