VTY numbers?

I'm have a 2511 router to serve as CommServer, but this router have only 5 VTY's, can I extend this number?

The VTY's number is based on IOS or on the router's hardware? For example a 2500 series router will always have only 5 VTY?

Re: VTY numbers?

VTY's can be made up to 15 on most platforms (some more).

I think 2500's might be limited to the 5 vtys but try this just to see.

Try "line vty 0 15" in your router and see (in configuration mode).

Depending on the code you're running you might only be limited to 5 total.

If you put a "?" behind the "line vty 0 ?" it will tell you what it's limit are.

VTY's above this point are reserved for Asynch and other modules that go into various router platforms.

Hope this helps you,

Re: VTY numbers?

I read on another message in this forum that only Enterprise IOS version can have more than 5 VTY's... I will test this to verify...

Re: VTY numbers?

Hi Don...

I have tested with a 2522 with IOS Enterprise and with IOS with feature set "COMMSERVER"... on both cases, I have 188 lines vty's... so the amount of vty's lines is a IOS specific and not router's hardware specific...
