I guess, you are asking about Async interface configuration, where we use configurations on both the "interface Async " mode, as well as the "line " mode.
The logical configurations, such as ip address, encapsulation, dialer configurations etc are configured on the interface mode. While the Line mode is used to specify hardware related configurations such as, Speed of transmission, Stopbits, Flow control etc.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
