What does "%LINK-4-ERROR" mean?

I have an NT Print Server that shows the above error several times a day in our switch log. In looking at the interface statistics, I see 1690 input errors and 1690 CRCs in just over a week's time.

We often have HP JetDirect (LaserJet) printers that, once they are turned off and back on, cannot establish a connection with this print server. We stop and restart the spooler on the NT print server, and the printer re-establishes a connection with its queue.

I'm just wondering, with the errors in the 3548 switch log and on the port itself if it isn't a network/NIC issue. We use multiple VLANs. Most printers are not in the same VLAN as the print server. We do have a helper address on the router for our print server.

This messages means that excessive errors have occurred on this interface. Check for duplex mismatches between both ends of the link (LAN switch 3548 and print NIC).
