What has more switching abilit? 5505 or 3550-48?

Which switch can handle the traffic better? I know the 5505 can handle more ports, but is a 3550-48 a better choice in an office that has 30 users? Or should I use an old 5505 w/ 2 24 port blades? I know about the redundant power and supervisor modules available for the 5505, but in terms of just being able to handle traffic, which would be better?

3550 by far. The 5505, at best has three 1.2 Gb backplanes (3.6Gb) and is not as feature rich as the 3550 series switches. 3550, also can do L3 functions if this is something that would be wanted without the need to burn a slot with an RSM, as with the 5505.

I agree, you are far better off with the 3550 than the 5505. 5505's only have a 3.6Gbps backplane compared to the 3550-48 that has a 13.6. Also, the 5505 takes up way to much closet space. If you just need it for handling traffic, go the 3550. I heard a rumor through the grapevine the other day that Cisco is now offering a 3yr warranty with the 3550's. Guess they want to take Dell head on!!!!

The 3550's, from what I understand, has a lifetime warranty on everything but the power supply. The power supply has a 5 year warranty. Thats why we dont get smartnet on our switches.
