what is "ingress port"and "egress port " ?

Hi All,

When I see the document of switch, I saw the phase "ingress port"and "egress port ". My native language is not English. At first I think that "Ingress port " as "incoming port " and " egress port " as "outgoing port " . But when I read more and more, it seems that my understand is wrong. Can any body explain this for me ? Thank You very much!

It is always either ingress or egress to the switch/router
