What SDN means, you need to junk your existing network and replace with one that's SDN capable.
Actually SDN is looking to use additional intelligence contained within network devices so that we can work with them at a higher policy level. You configure a high level policy and the network devices will then program themselves to support it.
As a comparison, once upon a time, I would configure disk storage to go to particular disk devices and define allocations in physical disk tracks or disk cylinders. I would also define how the data was allocated on a disk track, i.e. blocking. Now, file storage is "out there" on some logical location, physical devices and where it's actually stored are unknown to me, and I don't define space allocations. SDN is working to implement a higher abstraction of networks, so we don't concern ourselves with particular devices or links as we so often do today.
