What is the difference?

Hi All,

Hoping someone could help me and let me know if there is any difference between the two following IOS Global config commands:

switch(config)#mac address-table

and

switch(config)#mac-address-table

The only difference is the '-' between 'mac' and 'address'. Both commands seem to do the same things, but am worried as doing some study for the CCNA and have found some pratcive questions asking for this command, but not sure which one is right?

Thanks in advance,

Cam

Re: What is the difference?

these do both the same function.

the one that would be correct is the one that works for that version of IOS. (i haven't seen any IOS that has both versions of this command)

this is the command to view/modify the CAM (mac address-table)

Re: What is the difference?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunatley we have switches at work that DOES use both commands and they display exactly the same results and have exactly the same options. The switches are CAt3750's running IOS version 12.1(14r)EA1a.

It doesn't concern me that there are two commands that do exactly the same thing, just wanted to know which one would be the 'more correct' one to answer in a CCNP (or similar) test?

Thanks again!
