What is the function minCIR in frame-relay?

Hi All,

Can any body tell me the function of minCIR in frame-relay? I had found some doc and the doc just explain in as "mininum CIR". I can not get the meaning. Thank You!

Re: What is the function minCIR in frame-relay?

Hi Waimen,

When you configure frame-relay traffic shaping using a map-class (as below), the mincir value determines the minimum value that the router will shape that PVC to ...

map-class frame-relay frShape

frame-relay cir 64000

frame-relay mincir 32000

frame-relay adaptive-shaping becn

frame-relay bc 8000

frame-relay be 16000

For example, with the above config, the router will attempt to shape the circuit at 64kbps. However, if it starts receiving BECNs from the frame-relay switch it is connected to, it will start reducing the rate at which it is transmitting data on that PVC (until the BECNs stop). The minimum rate to which it will drop the transmission is determined by the minCIR, which in the above case is 32kbps.

HTH.
