What means SW_VLAN-4-VTP_INTERNAL_ERROR ??

We have a LAN Network with:

Two 6509's as VTP Server (v2)

Many 2900XL as access layer, VTP Client

And we have problems with vlans, the user ports in vlans different to management (1) freeze and the unique solution is delete and create the vlan at the VTP Server.

Obviusly is a problem with VTP.

The exact message in the logging buffer is:

00:00:37: %SW_VLAN-4-VTP_INTERNAL_ERROR: VLAN manager received an internal error 14 from vtp function vtp_download_info: Bad parent VLAN ID

-Traceback= 2B1C14 2B2150 1E3B9C

Do you know something about this??

Re: What means SW_VLAN-4-VTP_INTERNAL_ERROR ??

Smells like a VTP bug. What version of code and is this error from 2900s or 6500 and how often does this occur?

Possible workaround / test - on one of the 2900's set it to transparent mode and see if it continues.

Re: What means SW_VLAN-4-VTP_INTERNAL_ERROR ??

The error is from 2900XL's, they are members of a cluster connected by trunks (802.1q).

The comander of a cluster is a 2950 running 12.1(9)EA1

flash:/c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-9.EA1.bin

The code running in 2900XL's is:

12.0(5.3)WC(1)

flash:c2900XL-c3h2s-mz.120-5.3.WC.1.bin (I think is old)

The Cat 6500's are running 7.2.2

cat6000-sup2k8.7-2-2.bin

Excuse me, but I don't understand the test, if set one of the 2900's to Transparent, the VLANs are locally to the switch and not join with the Domain (the vlans only exist in the local switch and can't communicate with the others ports in the Domain, DHCP Server for example).

Regards
