What reason can cause the interface status is error-disable?

The Case is below:

A third-part layer 4 switch connect to the Catalyst 6509 through GBIC¡£Now I always found that the interface status is error-disable and cann't be up when I reload the third-part switch. I must telnet to Cat 6509 shut/no shut the interface. Ca6509's IOS is cisco IOS c6sup22-jsv-mz.121-13.E1 and the interface whitch connected to layer 4 switch is config as:

interface GigabitEthernet5/11

no ip address

no keepalive

switchport

switchport access vlan 112

switchport mode access

It's not in EthernetChannel mode and STP is running normally.

why? pls help me.

Re: What reason can cause the interface status is error-disable?

When an interface goes down-errdisable this is often caused by media mismatch or excessive collisions. Did you check the duplex setings on the L4switch? What type of GBIC are you using? (Fiber?) This is garbled in your posting.

Re: What reason can cause the interface status is error-disable?

The type of GBIC is fiber and it's my first time to use this type GBIC. I have change the duplex to full mode and disable negotiation in the layer4 switch . I think it's the reason of media mismatch or compatibility.

Re: What reason can cause the interface status is error-disable?

What about root-guard or BPDU-guard?

Enable BPDU-GUARD command globally..
