to get the serail number off my switches and routers. I had the impression that Show Ver was it but it only works on my 2950.
I have 2500, 2611, 3640, 3745, and 6509.
TIA

"Show inventory" works on some Cisco devices too. (May need to have a recent IOS version running for this to work, though.)

Apart from 6509 you should get serial numbers from remaining routers/switches. What IOS you are running ?

I'm using 11.2 on our 2500's and on the newer equipment such as the 2611 I'm using 12.0 and higher.

Try "show platform" for the 3745.

Hi,
for modular routers try the command "sh diag" for modular switches try the command "sh module", this command will let u know the serial numbers of the modular cards, as far as my knowledge goes, there is no command to let u know the serial numbers of the devices, moreover the commands "sh diag", "sh module", will give the serial number of the Motherboard, please dont get confused.
