Which MAC is going to DHCP

I am using helper addresses to forward DHCP broadcasts to my dhcp server, my question is what MAC address is in the packet when it arrives at the DHCP server, the machine sending the DHCP broadcasst or the router. I am going to use a ACL to restrict some machines from getting an address.

Re: Which MAC is going to DHCP

Hi,

AFIK, it encapsulates the original info into a new unicast packet sent from the router to the DHCP server.

So an ACL won't restrict some machines from getting an address.

See http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/788/AVVID/dhcp-multintwk.pdf

for details.

Regards,

Milan
