cisco 3550/3750 switch is called catalyst ?why called catalyst ,its only name or others .

any idea just for to know.

AFAIK Cisco initially baught a company called Kalpana an the name is coming from there. There is no particular nam significance.

I heard it happens even before that. The acquisition of kalpana happened by Oct. 24, 1994. Catalyst is the first product resulting from technology Cisco obtained through the September 1993 acquisition of Crescendo Communications Inc., now called Cisco's Workgroup Business Unit.

But as he said, i don't think that there is no particular significance.
