a cat 5500 switch with sup 3 card just all of a sudden lost connectivity. by looking at the logging buffer of another switch found out the time of failure. it was after hours and not noticed until the next day. the switch was still running, but you couldn't ping it, and all the workstations hanging off the switch also couldn't ping anything. what gives? the logging buffer is gone, so i don't know how else to investigate this. we powercycled the switch and all is fine now. the switch has been up and running since Mar 27 2000 - could that be it, because it was on for a year and a half? also on bootup saw a message: 2001 Nov 26 07:34:11 CENTRAL -06:00%SYS-3-MOD_MINORFAIL:Minor problem in module 7. how do i find out what that is as well. thank you.

Sign onto CCO and use Cisco's groovy "Output Interpreter" to paste your console message into, and it'll come back and tell you what it means.

Also, read up on the release notes of your version of CatOS running on the switch, as well as the new releases to see what they fixed since your release.

Some of the documentation sets include a document listing the console messages, as well as notes about each message. That may be helpful too.

do a show test 7 and you would see which component had failed. Now your loss of connectivity may need some additional troubleshooting. You should open a TAC case.
