Why does one AS5300 says that Interface Async DOWn/DOWN?

I have several Access Server 5300 units. When I do a Show Interface Asyn1 or (any Asyn Interface) it says Up/UP Spoofing, but only one Access Server 5300 named asprin says DOWN/DOWN.

See asprin's output and another one called neasras' output below.

They all work fine, in the sense that people can dial in and work fine without any trouble. But our remote moniroring gets upset with DOWN/DOWN status.

They all run the same image flash:c5300-j-mz_122-5.5.

The only config differences between asprin and neasras are shown below:

Every other config line is identical.

isprin#sho int asyn 1

Async1 is down, line protocol is down

modem(slot/port)=1/0, state=IDLE

dsx1(slot/unit/channel)=NONE, status=VDEV_STATUS_UNLOCKED

Hardware is Async Serial

Interface is unnumbered. Using address of Loopback0 (10.23.144.1)

MTU 1500 bytes, BW 115 Kbit, DLY 100000 usec,

reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255

Encapsulation PPP, loopback not set

Keepalive not set

DTR is pulsed for 5 seconds on reset

LCP Closed, multilink Closed

Closed: IPCP

Last input 2w1d, output 2w1d, output hang never

Last clearing of "show interface" counters 1y8w

Queueing strategy: fifo

Output queue 0/10, 0 drops; input queue 0/10, 0 drops

5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

1233 packets input, 126605 bytes, 0 no buffer

Received 0 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

6 input errors, 6 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored, 0 abort

1173 packets output, 525060 bytes, 0 underruns

Actually, the async interface should be down/down if the connection is not active on a modem associated with it. So if it reports up/up spoofing, its not a correct state.

Now as far as ios goes, why do you have 12.2.5.5 (which is intrim special image)??

But why the difference in the Interface Async Status, although you say that DOWN/DOWN is correct status if the connection is not active on a amodem associated with it.

The Department has been running this S/W in many many AS5300 and all the units are stable.
