Why does the command "show banner" reboot the switch?

While applying banners on our Cisco Catalyst 5000 series switches, the command "show banner" afterwards reboots/resets the switch. Even after logging out, and logging back in the switch will still reboot after the "show banner" command. The switch however, keeps the new banner in the config, and it is displayed durning the next logon. They are all running the same version of code 6.3.4a. I have checked for hidden control characters that would cause the switch to reboot, but there does not seem to be any. Also, the banner is less than the 3,070 character limit.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just did a quick bug scrub and did not find anything similar to this. I suggest that you open a TAC case along with output of "sh tech"

Thanks, that was my next stop. The only thing I could find was "Cisco Security Advisory: Cisco CatOS Telnet Buffer Vulnerability". But it says the problem was fixed in the version of code that were are running.
