Why I can't config the ip address in e0/0?

Hi:

I have a router 2611 .

-------[e0/1]router[e0/0]------device-----

the device is turn optic singal to ethernet singal.

At e0/0

I want to config ip address 192.168.1.2/30 .

config t

int e0/0

ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.252

It report wrong .

Bad 30 mask

I change the mask 255.255.255.240

I try again ,but it report wrong again.

In the end ,I do these.

config t

int e0/0

ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0

It's right!!!

in e0/1

ip address is 10.154.55.19 255.255.255.224

why it happen ?

Make sure you have "ip subnet-zero" command enabled on the router.
