Why the "AT Z" in chat-script caused modem not to dial at all?

I am configuring Asynchronous DDR on a 2503 router and usr_courier modem.

Chat-script as blow:

chat-script dial ABORT ERROR "" "AT Z" OK "ATDT \T" TIMEOUT 30 CONNECT \c

but the modom never dialed at all. I debug chat-script and found the "TIMEOUT:CONNECT, remote host not responding". If I remove "AT Z" OK,

chat-script dial ABORT ERROR "" "ATDT \T" TIMEOUT 30 CONNECT \c

then everything will be working properly. The purpose of using "AT Z" is to reset the modem before it dial out every time, in case the line is hung there. But the fact is that the modem never will receive the dial string, because it is resetting while the router sending the string to modem. Did you use the "AT Z" in chat-script and get the similar problem?

We're using this for callback:

chat-script callback ABORT ERROR ABORT BUSY "" "ATZ" OK "ATDT \T" TIMEOUT 30 CON

and have no problems with it. Only difference is we're using (internal) Mica modems, maybe they reset quicker than your external Courier?
