wic-1dsu-t1 alarm light

I have a fractional T1 line, but my ISP has not given me any IP addresses or gateway info. So I don't know if my T1 line works.

The alarm (AL) on my wic is amber. The CD light is green. I think the wic is good because of these messages:

Should I wait until my ISP gives me some IP addresses and routing info first before worrying?

just to respond to your 'Alarm' amber light. This indicates you have a connection. Only if it shows red do you have to start worrying about either the csu/dsu or their box. Hope this helps a little

Re: wic-1dsu-t1 alarm light

One thing you could do to see if your fractional T1

is up, and do a show int serial x, x= serial port that is connected to the circuit.

from router config mode:

router # clear int serial x

router # show int serial x

if serial x up, line protocol up, then layer 1 & 2

is up. keep doing the command, and see if there are any input errors. If 0 input errrors, and you're getting keepalive packets back, then your ckt is good to go.

Once you get your ip addresses, you should have full connectivity.

Hi,

Probably a little late for you to use, but may be of some use for future reference :-

When trying to determine if a T1 controller is healthy, the best way is to use an external pyhsical test, such as a loopback plug as this will test the "whole" card and the dsu. To do this simply follow the instructions in the URL below :-

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/116/t1_flchrt_loop.html

Hope it helps.
