I have two switches interconnected by a trunk. Both vtp mode is transparent.

And switch 1 has vlan10 configed on port 1-4,vlan 20 on port 5-8, vlan 30 on prot 9-12,and switch 2 has vlan 10 configed on port 1-4,vlan 20 on port 5-8,vlan 40 on port 9-12. And i want to change the vtp mode of switch 1 to server, and switch 2 to client, and that what happend? Will all the vlan config in switch 2 lost ?Or just vlan 40 config will lost?

Before make sure that the switch in the server mode switch has all the vlans that the client has and its config revision number is higher than the client. The best practice is to move switch 1 to server mode and then create all the vlan that are in the switch 2. and then move the switch 2 to client mode.

For backup purpose, it is always the good pratice to backup all the config before making any changes or upgrades.

I have not lab tested this, but I think that it will work. In this order:

switch 1

configure the VTP domain

configure VLAN 40

change the mode to 'server'

switch 2

configure the VTP domain

change the mode to client

This should work
