Windows 2000 PC connected to Catalyst sometimes freeze/hang for a while

Hi...

My PC is running on Windows 2000. Sometimes my PC hangs or frezees for a while (about 5 seconds). This problem started to happen after I move my network connection from a hub to a Cisco Catalyst (3500 series).

If I connect it back to the old hub, the problem never came out.

Is there any special setting on the Catalyst for Windows 2000 PC?

Thanks,

Budiman

I added:

"spanning-tree portfast"

And I also forced duplex and speed after encounter this problem.

"duplex full"

"speed 100"

But, it still faces problem.

Hi,

this also might be a NIC - Catalyst compatibility problem.

See http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/46.pdf

Hello,

Is it a "Dell" model with intel Pro 1000-MT NIC ?

Best Regards.

Re: Windows 2000 PC connected to Catalyst sometimes freeze/hang

Are you aware of known problems with this NIC? We presently have approx. 1000 Dell Windows 2000 systems with this type of NIC and this number is growing with our migration. Our Cisco routers barely crawl at morning and after lunch logins.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Windows 2000 PC connected to Catalyst sometimes freeze/hang

Hello,

a customer with this type of pcs, this type of OS and with this NIC connect to 2950 has got many problems about different freeze - blue screen like the description of this problem says (500PC present this symptom)

He investigates with suppliers but i don't have yet the feedback.

His solution actually is to plug this pc inside another switch which is not a 2950.

Faithfully.

Hi,

How's your port display? Sh int fa 0/

Do you see any crc errors or dropped packages? Check the following items:

1. Duplex mismatch (Check both switch and NIC setting on PC)

2. Layer 1 (Check cable)

3. On switchport make sure that the "spanning-tree portfast" is enabled.

Keep in mind that uplink port can't be enabled for portfast.
