Workstation DNS Problem

Setting up a new Frame relay network. Each router has ip domain-lookup, ip name-server statements. The ip-lookup statement points to our domain name. The ip

name-server points to two Windows NT DNS servers at our host location.

My Problem: From the remote router I can ping the fully qualified domain name(Mail.mydomain.com) and the name of the server(Mail). When I try and ping from the a workstation using "mail.mydomain.com" it resolves the name, when I try and ping "mail" I get unknown hosts. Any Ideas !!

Re: Workstation DNS Problem

Its look like its a WINS problem and not your router configuration.

hint: the reason why you can ping your mail.mydomain.com.is because it is a domain name format which resolved by your DNS server.

Re: Workstation DNS Problem

It seems to be a DNS problem becuase if I manual add the DNS server under the TCP/IP setting on the workstation it works fine.
