write memory in catalyst 6509

Hello,

I have some problems when I try to save the runningconfig to the startupconfig. If I use the "wri mem" command it says "That command is only available in text configuration mode" and I can't save the configuration.

What should I do to save the config with that command? Is it normal?

Thanks in advance.

Re: write memory in catalyst 6509

Hello,

when you work in binary mode, the config file is automatically saved to nvram.

This is what you should see when you configure binary mode:

Console> (enable) set config mode binary

System configuration copied to NVRAM. Configuration mode set to binary.

When you use the command

set config mode text nvram

the configuration is saved in text format to nvram.

You can verify this by configuring text mode as follows, you should get the output below:

Console> (enable) set config mode text nvram

Binary system configuration has been deleted from NVRAM. Configuration

mode set to text. Use the write memory command to save configuration changes.

System configuration file set to: nvram

The nvram file will be used for configuration during the next bootup.

Console> (enable) show config mode

System configuration mode set to text.

System configuration file set to nvram.

GP

Re: write memory in catalyst 6509

Hello,

use the command

set config mode text

to change the way the config is written back, it is probably set to binary, which is the default.

Re: write memory in catalyst 6509

Hello,

Thanks, I've solved that problem, but, I've another doubt. Is there some difference between working in binary mode or in text mode? and if I work in binary mode (the default), how can I save the config to memory?

Thanks again.
