WS-C6509 CatOS 7.6(12) Sup1a, Upgrade Help ?

Can you help,

I have 6509's configured with Sup1a, running CatOS 7 with the following cards,

WS-X6K-SUP1A-2GE WS-F6K-PFC

WS-X6408A-GBIC

WS-X6348-RJ-45

WS-SVC-NAM-1

I am a little confused which Supervisor and MSFC to upgrade to (we want to add VLAN routing functionality)

Do I go with the WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2 or is that going to be end of sale soon ?

The document on Cisco's site listed below seems to recommend that I go to the WS-SUP32-GE-3B ?

http://www.cisco.com/application/pdf/en/us/guest/products/ps708/c1031/cdccont_0900aecd803590fc.pdf

Thanks for any advice!

Diff. in price between a Sup 720 and Sup 2 is about 6k. I would suggest using a Sup 720. Every thing else looks ok!

-------Edited below--------

WS-X6348-RJ45 is end of life. YOu may want to consider WS-X6148-RJ45.

We have been quoted on a Sup2 MSFC-2 from our

supplier.

Are you saying that I should instead get a price on

the Sup720 modules ?

Where does the Sup32 come into this ?

Thanks

Sup 2's have 32 gig back plane (These will be EOL some time soon, not now)

Sup 32s have 32 gig back plane.

Sup 720s have 720 gig back plane.

The Sup 32 you were looking for costs around 13-14k (list).

PS: check my previous post. Your 6348 line card is end of life. Check out 6148 line card.

Additionally, here is some FAQ on Sup 32.

Ok thanks for your help Shanky,

Do you see what I'm getting at here. I have to make a

recommendation to my boss, if the Sup2 MSFC2 route is going to be EOS EOL next, then should I be looking at skipping that and going to either the Sup32 or the Sup720 ?

Seems like I should be choosing between the 720 or 32.

The sup32 seems to be less powerfull than the sup2 with msfc2 though. I can't really place it. It seems like it's for the edge. These 6509's are core switches and will be core routers when we upgrade.

Yes Sup32s are for the edge. You should definitely go with Sup 720. As far as Sup2's they are still orderable, but I dont see a life for this module for more than a couple of years from now. Why waste money on a product that could be EOL in a couple of years.

Wow that was quick, thanks again. I'll get a quote for the Sup 720's. That's the way I see it. Gotta think about the future.
