Is the above module hot swappable?

It's the Backplane Channel Module in a 4006 switch.

Yes it is but you might see some packet loss.

Are you accross any doco. confirming it. Or did you just try it yourself?

I'm a bit consious as this switch has more than 100 sinlge homed servers.

by the way do you have any idea what this module does other than the single line provided in the product documentation: "provides improved

bandwidth for the supervisor engine."

What will happen if this module goes faulty? Will the servers be affected? and how?

Architecture in a nutshell. WS-X4013 has 3 switching ASICs in the Supervisor which switch's packet(A---B---C). Each ASIC connects to certain line cards/ports. Without WS-X4019 traffic from a port connected to ASIC A destined for a port on ASIC C has to traverse through ASIC B. WS-X4019 connects ASIC A and C.

So to answer your question, if the WS-X4019 were to go bad, there should not be any catastrophic effects. Also as an FYI all CAT OS hardware and software for 4006 are end of sale/life and you might want to consider migrating to a IOS based Supervisor such as WS-X4013+(With this you would not need WS-X4019)
