3DES throughput on 1721 without VPN module

What is the max throughput with 3DES on a 1721 router without the VPN module. I use a 1721 and a 3005 concentrator to establish an EzVPN connection over an ADSL link with 1.5Mbps downstream and 256Kbps upstream but I only get a thoughput of 210-240 Kbps in both directions. There is no difference if I use DES or 3DES.

I suppose with the VPN module I will get more throughput but max 240 Kbps sounds very low, so I suppose something is wrong. I also tested with a VPN dialer client against the same concentrator and then I get over 1Mbps with 3DES encryption.

240 Kbps does sounds low though it's difficult to imagine why. The best thing is to check throughput without the tunnel in place. That should fix the problem as being with the box or the connection. I guess the VPN module will help if the problem is with hardware. It'll get you 8 Mbps throughput on your Cisco 1700.
