With version 3.1 code for IDS sensors being discontinued (feb 2004 I think), does anyone know if this also will affect 3.0 code for the 6509 version 1 IDSM module? Will that product no longer have new 3.0 definations made available? Also does anyone know if that module ever have Version 4 support or is the whole thing going to go end of life?

IDSM 1 will end of life with 3.1 code.

Contact your Cisco Representative about upgrading from IDSM version 1 to IDSM2.
Look at the presentation comparing version 1 to version2:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2706/ps5058/index.html
Under the presentations area.
One particular slide talks about Cisco's aggressive upgrade strategy:
Cisco is providing a $10000 credit for the IDSM1 when upgrading to the IDSM2.
Take advantage of this trade-in offer while you still can. The trade-in offer is only guaranteed to last until December.
The EOS/EOL announcement on the same html page will give you the details of the support dates for the IDSM1.

You should get a $10000 credit for upgrading from IDSM-1 to IDSM-2.
NOTE: This requires that IDSM-1 be returned to Cisco.
NOTE: Upgrades from IDSM-1 to a IDS-42xx appliance do not get the $10000 credit, it is only for users going from IDSM-1 to IDSM-2.
Contact your Cisco Representative and point them to the "IDSM-2 for the Catalyst 6500 -- IDSM1 Comparisons" power point presentation on CCO:
Have them look at page 12 to see the $10000 credit.
If the Cisco Representative has any questions have him contact the IDSM-2 Product Manager.
Something to be aware of.
If you read the slide closely you will see that the $10000 credit is in addition to any other discounts you may receive. So if you normally get $1500 off on a new purchase you may actually get $11500 off if you do the trade-in.
