Additional Monitoring Interfaces (4230 appliance)

Has anybody installed additional promiscuous monitoring interfaces in one of the 4230's? Just curious to see if anybody has, and if so, how it's working for them... or if it's even logistically possible.

Re: Additional Monitoring Interfaces (4230 appliance)

Packetd will ONLY support monitoring of a single interface at a time. This is a software and not a hardware limitation with current versions. So even if you installed a second NIC you could only monitor the old /dev/spwr0 or new NIC, but not both at the same time.

Since packetd will only work with one NIC, if your spwr0 interface is working fine, you wouldn't gain anything by adding another 10/100 NIC.

Cisco does not support users adding new interfaces to the IDS appliances. Doing so would be at your own risk without TAC support, and would void any warranty on your appliance.
