AOL Client Blocking

Does anyone know of an easy way to block the use of the AOL/tcp connection. I have users internal who are installing their personal AOL account on their PC's and using that connection to get around my PIX 515 and Websense filtering software. I would like to shut off any access to AOL from my internal users. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi David,

Here is a useful link that might help you out:

Regards -

Thanks for that advice, but I'm mainly looking to block the main AOL client. You know, the one that tells us "You've got mail" and other irksome things.

David,

If you would like to block AOL Instant Messenger on the firewall, then you have to block 2 things: the port on which AIM operates, port 5190, and/or the server to which the majority of all AIM clients connect: login.oscar.aol.com. This should sort out your problem completely.
