ASA 5520 DRAM Upgrade

Hello,

We have a ASA 5520 running version 8.x that currently has 512MB of DRAM.

I would like to upgrade the DRAM to 1GB

Questions:

1. How many slots DRAM slots does the 5520 have?

2. I found this part:

http://www.memoryx.net/asa5520mem1gb.html

Which looks to be the right one. Is there any where I can llo to be sure? I have been been looking and looking but I cant find any hard documentation about the DRAM modules I can use for my 5520.

Thanks a million,

Pedro

Re: ASA 5520 DRAM Upgrade

It should have four.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/hw/maintenance/guide/procs.html#wp1076043

The only supported memory upgrade must come from Cisco, part# ASA5510-MEM-512=

The 'Cisco' part number at memoryx does not exist in Cisco's price list. Also I believe that is for the AIP module, not the chassis. I believe the chassis only supports 512MB chips. The link below is the one you want.

http://www.memoryx.net/asa5520.html

It only shows it having a single bank though. I don't have a 5520 in the lab to take a look, but the documentation should be accurate.

Re: ASA 5520 DRAM Upgrade

Was it ever confirmed if a memory upgrade is supported on the 5520?

Re: ASA 5520 DRAM Upgrade

I found out that the Max that the ASA5520 will take is 512mb, so if you have less than 512 you can upgrade. And there is only one slot.

Re: ASA 5520 DRAM Upgrade

That actually isn't true...I have someone who took one 512 chip from a 5520 and put it into another 5520 and it works fine. But is it supported by TAC. I'm told there a 4 memory banks in the 5520.
