Back-up VMS Servers

Hi there,

We currently have two servers running VMS, one running the Monitor and one running the MC.

If I want to back these systems up to an external Back-up Server, what files should I backup? what database is VMS running if it is running any? What are the normal sizes of these files?

Thanks a ton

Mike

Hi Mike,

Logon to VMS,

VPN/Security Management Solution--->Administration----->CommonServices-----> Backup Database

The process above lets you pick the location of where to save the backup.

For restoring, follow the same path, but choose restore.

VMS has different databases for different purposes.

COMMON SERVICES -- FMS/KRS/Sybase

PIX MC ----------- FMS/KRS

AUS -------------- Sybase

ROUTER MC -------- Sybase

IDS MC ----------- Sybase

The size of the database depends upon how many devices reporting to the VMS/Security monitor and how many events are these generating.

For additional CLI utilities for IDS database, please refer to the below url

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/cw2000_b/vpnman/vms_2_1/secmon11/ug/appa.htm

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

yatin
