Beginner's question

Just getting into the VPN world...and have a question that I can't figure.

When you configure a IPSec VPN between 2 locations, there are THREE locations where you set an SA-lifetime!

1: ISAKMP configuration

2: "crypto ipsec" configuration

3: crypto map configuration

I can explain away two of them by saying they are IKE Phase1/Phase2, but what's the third?!?

Thanks!

Re: Beginner's question

Crypto ipsec security-association is system wide default

Crypto map... is specific to that map - if you don't enter it, it uses the default from crypto ipsec... above.

ISAKMP is for isakmp, which is used to create the environment within which IPSec tunnels can be brought up
