I installed the image - and according to

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1828/products_white_paper09186a00801ab747.shtml

It should provide ssh. Essentially - I want to use ssh on the 2600 without going to 12.3. i added the domain name - and created a key - but when I went to configure the vty line - transport input ssh was not one of the options

Much thanks for any help!!

Amin

SSH is not included in every encryption image, certainly not 12.1 mainline for lower-end platforms (in fact I don't believe it was in any 12.1 mainline images, only T and E trains). Nowadays it is pretty much in every encryption image, but the best way to find an image that does have it (or any particular feature for that matter) is to use the Feature Navigator here:

http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/index.jsp

Search by Feature, enter SSH then select the SSH v1 Server, add it and then continue. Here you can select your platform to find the exact image you'll need, looks like you'll need to go to at least 12.2 or 12.2T though.

Once you have an image with SSH in it, just define a domain name and create your keys with "cry key gen rsa" and you'll see a console message saying SSH has been enabled.

Thanks alot for your help guys!!

You also need to configure username authentication in order to get ssh working.
