Calculate bandwidth by means of the SNMP

I need to calculate bandwidth used in an interface WAN, by means of protocol SNMP. The formula that Cisco recommends to use is max(deltaifInOctets, deltaifOutOctets) x 8 xs 100 / (to number of seconds in delta) xs ifSpeed. But I do not understand formula. Somebody has examples of like compiling the data for the formula.

Thanks.

Have a look at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SNMP/calculate_bandwidth_snmp.html and if you're still not clear, I'd suggest that you look at the book 'Performance and Fault Management': http://www.ciscopress.com/catalog/product.asp?product_id={A2EB5666-7D11-4CEE-AE9A-2B0206802BF7} which is an excellent resource fot these type of questions.
