[checkpoint/icmp vs. cisco ios]

hi,

i'm building a campus lan and the strangest thing happened to me.

i can ping a checkpoint's inside interface (windows box) from any box in the network (ANY BOX, namely PC's, Catalyst catOS switches, you name it) except for a box running IOS sw. has anyone heard of an incompatibility between cisco's icmp implementation and the one on a checkpoint box.

like i said, works from every box in the network except from a box running ios.

regards,

c.

Hi,

are you sure that there are no access-lists in place on the IOS device?

Did you check the Checkpoint config to make sure that the IOS device is allowed to ping the internal interface of the Checkpoint firewall?

Kind Regards,

Tom

When you ping the CPFW1 - ensure that you do an extended ping from the ethernet interface on which the CPFW1 resides.

Try a:

debug ip icmp

on the IOS router, and see if that gives you any hints.

Also try doing a:

show ip arp

and make sure that the router has been able to convert the IP address of the CheckPoint box into a MAC address.
