Cisco IOS Firewall vs. Pix Firewall Software

Hi,

I just learned that the IOS version I have on one

of our routers has the Cisco IOS Firewall

capabilities built in. Because I am unfamiliar with

this technology (IOS firewall), I would like someone

to chime in with his/her observations on this

feature.

My Main Question:

How secure is a soundly configured router

running cisco IOS firewall compared to a soundly

configured pix with pix firewall software (assuming

both are configured for the same network security

policies).

Hi,

Cisco IOS FW and PIX should both be considered equally secure. When it comes to performance PIX will outpass IOSFW. Remember that router's main function is ROUTING, IOS FW is an added feature.
