Hello. I have a cisco PIX 515 and was wondering if this firewall appliance is capable of doing VPN connection and acting as a endpoint. If someone can let me know, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Re: Cisco PIX 515 and VPN Capabilities Questions?

Yes it is possible to use the PIX 515 as a VPN server for IPSec.

You can create:

- Remote VPNs - VPN client access

- Site 2 Site VPN

- Easy VPNs

Re: Cisco PIX 515 and VPN Capabilities Questions?

Thank for you the response. I know the 515E has VPN but I have the regular 515 and when I open up PDM, there is no option for VPN or IPSec. Maybe I am looking it incorrectly. Can you let me know if the regular 515 has VPN? does all PIX come with VPN installed or is it an option? once again thanks for your help.

Re: Cisco PIX 515 and VPN Capabilities Questions?

If you a show version you will see if there is allready DES and 3DES encryption enabled.

If it is not then go the following link to get a free activation key. You need to enter your PIX serial number which you see also in the to get that key.

Activation key page:

PIX OS Download page:

You might need to upgrade you PIX OS and PDM version to see that VPN features. What version are you running ?

example of VPN config with PDM:
