My Pix docs tell me Conduits and Access-lists will work together with the ACL evaled 1st, but if the ACL has an implicit deny at the end how is the Conduit ever in play? Will Conduits still punch holes thru the Pix even with the Access list? I realize best practice is to use only access-lists but I'm trying to make sense out of the docs and think of a scenario in which this would work.
Access-lists are applied on a per-interface basis. Conduits are global. Therefore, if you have an ACL applied to the DMZ interface, then that will restrict traffic from the DMZ interface in, but if you also have conduits, then they will apply to the other interfaces in the PIX. The PIX will ignore the conduits when evaluating traffic on the DMZ interface.
