connect PIX 501 to switch

I'm connecting the PIX 501 between my Cisco uBR900 cable modem/router and a 3Com OfficeConnect switch. This will replace a 3Com firewall. The switch is currently connected to the LAN port on the 3Com firewall. Do I simply connect the switch to any of the 4 PIX 501 ports? Does it make any difference which?

Hi,

you can coonect the switch to any port; check the duplex and the speed of the interface of the 3COM switch vs the inside interface of the PIX 501

the inside interface of pix is a 4-port switch.so,you can connect the 3com switch to any of the port on pix's inside interface.

as specified above, make sure that the speed and duplex settings are same on both, the pix and connected switch.

you can check the status of interface on firewall by issuing the command " sh interface ".

the interface and line protocol should be ip.

for the normal internet access:

nat (inside) 1 0 0

global (outside) 1 interface

route outside 0 0

hope this helps!!
