Control Plane Policing... When should it be configured?

Hi, I am wondering a little about control plane policing (CoPP). When should it be implemented in an enterprise network on the router? or border router? is it best practice to always have it configured? According to some secure IOS templates they dont have it configured, Just wondering if it should be enabled for a secure best practices for your infrastructure routers.

Re: Control Plane Policing... When should it be configured?

Configuring the Control Plane Policing feature on your Cisco router or switch provides the following benefits:

Protection against DoS attacks at infrastructure routers and switches

QoS control for packets that are destined to the control plane of Cisco routers or switches

Ease of configuration for control plane policies

Better platform reliability and availability

Re: Control Plane Policing... When should it be configured?

Hi,

I have one question on CoPP. I have been informed that CoPP may affect transit traffic when that is process switched. This is something to have always in mind when

depoying this feature.

I was having understanding that COPP will handle any traffic destination

for RP.

Can some one confirm on this ?

Regards,

Chintan.
