I have several 2.5 (1) S3 sensors that have daemons that die for no apparent reason. nrstop/nrstart will get then going again. sap and filexfer seem to be the ones with problems. It also only seems to happen on my heavily used sensors.
The daemons are probably so busy handling alarms that they are failing to respond to the watchdog process. I'd suggest increasing the watchdog time out and see if this helps. You probably ought to also "tune" the Sensor to reduce the amount of noise that is being generated. Increasing the log file switch timeout and filesize will help make sapd more efficient.
